The 3 Pillars of Success

Teammates, on Friday night I was interviewed via satellite link to Fox Business News in NYC. What I want to share with you is not the significance of the interview but instead the importance of one element of the interview and that is what I call the “3 Ps” or the Three Pillars of Success: PassionPurposePersistent Action.

Here’s why they are so critically important to anyone who is about to or is on a “mission”. I’m not just talking militarily here – I’m talking about going after your own goals, your own objectives! The key to anything – and I mean ANYTHING – in life is your ability to persevere - to not give up when the going gets tough – but the trouble is most folks give up too early – they give up on their dreams, their goals, they accept other’s opinions of failure as the only option. It's the "why even try" attitude.

So the key question to ask is how do those who persevere (such as making it through SEAL training or starting a company) continue to persevere when others quit. Herein lies the question and my answer – I stress my answer since this isn’t a scientific study but one that I’ve learned over thirty years of persevering. Follow your passion and Link it with a Purpose (hint the higher the Purpose, the more powerful your resolve will be to continue your Persistent Action).

More to come, but I want to plant this seed with you now, because life is too short not to follow your dreams.

CHARLIE MIKE -- ALDEN

Excellent interview CMDR!

You really can't explain passion, but it can be felt, tasted, smelled and heard by all.

According to Congressman Sam Johnson (FROM TEXAS - HOOYAH!), scratched on the wall of a prison cell in Hanoi were the words "Freedom has a taste, for those who have fought and almost died for it, that the protected will never know." (The saying didn't originate there, but the point is it was carved in the stone wall, by an American).

We've always had the freedom to follow our passion w/ regard to work and career, etc., and we better not take it for granted. Not for one second!

This works in leading a family as well -- If I gave up (divorce, isolation) every time I faced a challenge or my wife disagrees with me -- I'm committed to long term success not immediate comfort.
